Creepy Cuties
While children are commonly supplied with cheerful media, the cuteness, whimsy, and colors of media are stripped away from teens and adults. Combating ageism in fashion, decor, and more, Creepy Cuties is an alternative, mascot oriented merchandising brand that allows teens and adults to express their spooky side, while still being comfortable and cute at the same time. This second part of my BFA is all about out with sad beige, in with horror maximalism!
Branding
Being as this is an alternative merchandizing brand, I took heavy inspiration from alt music scenes, such as metal and punk. Speaking of which, the metal bands Lamb of God and Job For A Cowboy inspired my font. Hand-lettering the brand name felt appropriate as it gave that raw, energetic feeling as opposed to a preset type-face, and really allowed each letter to interact with one another.
Additionally, I wanted to have different color variants of the final logo, each color, green, purple, and pink, the color coordinating to their matching mascot.

Meet the Mascots
For the mascots of Creepy Cuties, I wanted to pick animals that are lovable and well-known, hence the cat, dog, and bunny. However, when creating these characters, I incorporated classic horror tropes into the designs, those being a mad scientist, a mummy, and a zombie. This mash of cute and scary is the perfect balance for a unique and eye-catching collection!

Posters
One of the first products within this collection that came to mind were posters.
A classic, timeless collector’s piece featuring a fully rendered illustration of each mascot within their chosen environment. For these, my goal was to elaborate on the personalities of the Creepy Cuties and to further push their spooky, yet charming physical characteristics and societal attributes.

stickers
Using the initial designs of the Creepy Cuties, I created die-cut stickers and sold them during a local artist alley. This exposure allowed me to gauge which mascot was the most popular amongst my target audience (teens to adults) and I had found that the mascots were equally popular! However, I found that people preferred themed sticker sheets over singular die-cut stickers.

Patches
Since this brand is inspired by metal and punk culture, creating patch designs felt rather necessary. Creepy Cuties offers a unique and personable style for everyone, so these patch will allow people to further customize their belongings. As of right now, these have not been physically constructed.

Hoodies
Wanting to go for an article of clothing that was both cozy and unisex, I decided to go with hoodies. Due to the small details within the illustrations and my previous knowledge and experience with the following material, I crafted my hoodies from colorful, wholesale vinyl. Each hoodie front has the Creepy Cuties logo on the right side of the chest, a repetitive design unique to each mascot, and a large splash image covering the back. From any angle, the hoodies are sure to be eye-catching!

Patterns
Lastly, for this collection I created mascot appropriate repeating patterns. These can be utilized in other merchandising pieces, such as bed sheets, bucket hats, insides of hoodies, wrapping paper, lanyards, and many other textiles and surfaces.

Sticker sheet
Due to the popularity of the prints I had made of full illustrations featuring Ducky, I had decided to branch out into other products, such as sticker sheets. Each sticker sheet is kiss-cut and entirely handmade.
These stickers are great for decorating cook books, notes, scrapbooks, or anything that needs some wholesome and cozy vibes!

Animal Picnic
Animal Picnic is a sticker book collection filled with playful, whimsical animals as they experience a relaxing and fun day out in nature together. Targeted towards a younger child audience, this sticker book allows children to interact with the illustrated world by giving them the opportunity to decorate the page however their imagination sees fit.
Planning
For the environment the animals would be in, I wanted to create something dynamic and detailed, while still having enough breathing room for interaction and space for different stickers to be placed. With all of the endless placements, I stuck to a limited color palette in order to form a rather cohesive and calming look to the collection.

Stickers
Deciding to use more common animals, such as a dog, cat, hamster, squirrel, and a fish, for my focal stickers, I managed to give each creature their own personality through their body language, colors, shape language, and chosen activity.
Additionally, I opted to create a larger scale of interaction by adding a bowl for the fish, allowing the children to place the fish on land within the bowl or simply swimming along in the river.
As for the secondary stickers, I included more nature and some yummy treats in order to play up the picnic narrative and the overall relaxing atmosphere.

In addition to the kiss-cut stickers for the book, I made an Animal Picnic sticker sheet as well!
Animal Picnic was made to be a sticker book activity, but this sticker sheet proves that this collection has a large range and can be applied to an abundance of products and forms.

Background
To guide the viewer’s eye through the landscape and into the cheerful sky above, I focused on shape language, that being round, swooping shapes, and utilized the limited color palette to aid the composition’s gentle movement.
